Top 6 Books for Motivation and Personal Growth

Do you know what successful people have in common?  It’s reading. They read, a lot.
Rich people like Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Elon Musk and Oprah Winfrey – all of them practice the habit of reading. Even Warren Buffett said that the key to success is a stack of books – “Read 500 pages like this every day. That’s how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it.”

This year I decided to do “A Year of Book” challenge. Every two weeks I try to read something new. Unfortunately, my procrastination happened so I might have skipped about a month or two on the challenge (? hihi! ). Well anyway, I’m here to fix that and continue my reading habits. Here are the top 6 books on my reading list. I personally selected the volumes that approach personal development and success. Sorry, no George R. R. Martin or John Green here.

    1. How to Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie
This book has immensely affected how I perceived socialization and personal approach. Dale Carnegie’s writing not only encourage you to look deeper into people’s emotion and understand it, it also pushes you to act and change.

Become genuinely interested in other people. “You can make more friends in two months by being interested in them, than in two years by making them interested in you.” The only way to make quality, lasting friendships is to learn to be genuinely interested in them and their interests.

    2. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Sean Covey
This book shows you the steps to success and encourages personal growth and maturity beginning with self.  A great practice that will lead to stronger relationships and success at home and at work.

“Treat a man as he is and he will remain as he is. Treat a man as he can and should be and he will become as he can and should be.”

    3.  Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill
Success depends on a lot of complex equations but this book boils down to one point – success comes from knowing what you want to achieve and having a burning desire to achieve it.

You are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct and control your own environment. You can make your life what you want it to be.”

    4. The Magic of Thinking Big, by David J. Schwartz
If you are seeking advice about success and abundance in life then this book will guide you. You will be motivated and you’ll have an idea how to overcome fear, have confidence and above all, think big.

“Those who believe they can move mountains, do. Those who believe they can’t, cannot. Belief triggers the power to do.”

    5. Rich Dad Poor Dad, by Robert T. Kiyosaki
This book reveals the importance of taking control of your financial destiny through entrepreneurship and investing. Kiyosaki’s storytelling involves real life scenarios wherein he shows examples & principles on how to make money work for you.

“Winners are not afraid of losing. But losers are. Failure is part of the process of success. People who avoid failure also avoid success.”

    6. The Art of War, by Sun Tzu
This is a little bit different from the ones listed above but this book has encouraged me in a completely different approach. It is about achieving success by overcoming conflict. Thinking like a war general in every scenario and turning your weakness into strengths.

“To … not prepare is the greatest of crimes; to be prepared beforehand for any contingency is the greatest of virtues.”
