5 Tips on How to Create an Effective Schedule

Lately, I’ve been having a hard time following my task list and agenda for the day. Even though I worked early and finished late, I don’t feel as if I’ve accomplished anything significant. I may have been busy working all day but it seems like there’s no progress on high priority projects and goals.

It happens to most of us all the time, faced with the same struggle we often lose focus on what’s important and get that task done. In order to solve this problem, we need to have an effective scheduling. It’s one of the key differences between being busy vs. being productive.  Here are some steps tips that will help you make effective scheduling a key part of your life.

  1.  Focus on the most important task of the day.
Getting a lot done in a day might feel good but it wouldn’t feel as productive compared to completing your main goal. Creating an effective schedule requires you to identify what’s the most important task that needs completion. Order your schedule in terms of importance and have it completed one by one.
  2. You need to Complete the Key Task First.
Energy runs high during the start of your day. So take advantage of this and finish your main goal. This will make a significant impact on your day making you achieve and complete more task. The longer you prolong working on the main task the higher chances you’ll encounter distractions and could easily get thrown off course.
  3. Be time-specific with your task.
Put time specific task list on your calendar and as much ass possible complete it at a specific time frame. Eg.finish client project @7am, meeting @3pm.  Doing so gives you ability to complete the most important goal of the day and avoid unimportant task which usually eats up your schedule.
  4. Analyze and Identify your time availability
Creating an effective schedule requires you to identify a realistic time frame for each task and knowing if you have the capabilities of completing it or if you need to delegate it to others. By analyzing your activities you can gauge your time limitations and what needs to be added to your schedule.
  5. Create Routines
Following routines allows you to complete repeated task with efficiency and minimum thought. An example of rituals includes going to the gym at a specific time of the day, going out to dinner with your girlfriend or reading a book before going to sleep. They make effective scheduling easier as you can block that time out on your calendar and there is little or no planning involved.

Effective scheduling allows you to be more productive each day. Starting the day with a task in mind allows you to adapt to unexpected events of the day while maintaining your focus on the important goals.
